Outlook Calendar Reading Through Reminders

When you make Calendar Appointments you are given a reminder fifteen minutes before the appointment, unless you indicate a different reminder time, or no reminder time. If the reminder pops up when you open Outlook, you will need to press and hold down the Alt key and hit the Tab key until you hear the reminder box. You can then listen to the content of the reminder, and Tab to the different buttons to decide if you want to "Snooze" for five minutes, or "Dismiss" the reminder. There is an Outlook Calendar ribbon method for viewing Reminders. Practice the following, and then move to the link at the bottom of this page titled "BACK" to go to the "Outlook Lessons" web page.

1. Open Outlook.

2. Press Control 2 to go to the Calendar.

3. Make sure you are in "Day" view.

4. Up arrow to an earlier time of the day.

5. Create and save an Appointment.

6. You will hear a "chime" type of sound.

7. Hit the Alt key one time.

8. Right arrow to the "View" tab of the ribbon, or press Alt v to go there.

9. Down arrow one time.

10. Hit the Tab key again-and-again to move to the "Reminders Window."

11. Hit the Enter key one time and the "Reminder" box will pop up.

12. Listen to what the reminder is.

13. Tab through the buttons to hear your choices.

14. Hit the enter key on the item you want. It might be the combo box for snooze where you can change the time by down arrowing, and then tabbing to the "Snooze" button and hitting the Spacebar one time. It might be the "Dismiss" button for one reminder, or the "Dismiss All" button for all of the Reminders. Or, just hit the Escape key to close the pop up Reminder box--you will probably hear the chime again because you have not dismissed the Reminder.
